Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still really long lasting and will last years, providing you a long lasting, gorgeous smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and lovely veneers.
