Today's Topic Has To Do With:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many clients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use multiple approaches: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and convenient bleaching process. The visit is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
