Crowns are synthetic caps, typically made from a product like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth.

Crowns are generally used to fix a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When degeneration in a tooth has become so advanced that big portions of the tooth should be removed, crowns are often used to fix the tooth.

Crowns are also used to prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse, attach bridges, cover implants, or an existing filling is at risk of becoming loose or dislocated. Crowns also serve as a visual use, and are applied when a discolored or stained tooth needs to be restored to its natural appearance.

Treatments

A tooth should typically be reduced in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent to a unique laboratory, which manufactures a custom-designed crown. In some cases, a temporary crown is applied up until the permanent crown is prepared. Permanent crowns are cemented in place.

Crowns are in some cases mistaken as veneers, however they are fairly different. Veneers are typically applied only to relatively small areas.

Taking care of Your Crowns

With appropriate care, a good quality crown might last as much as eight years or longer. It is crucial to floss in the location of the crown to avoid excess plaque or collection of debris around the restoration.

Specific habits such as jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding) significantly shorten the life of a crown. Moreover, consuming brittle foods, ice or hard candy can compromise the adhesion of the crown, or even break the crown.

The Discussion For Today Will Be:

Teeth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of a lot of clients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize numerous methods: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free whitening process. The appointment is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
