Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, put on the top of a tooth.

Crowns are generally used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative treatment such as a root canal. When degeneration in a tooth has actually ended up being so advanced that big portions of the tooth has to be taken out, crowns are often used to fix the tooth.

Crowns are also used to prevent a broken tooth from worsening, connect bridges, cover implants, or an existing filling is at risk of becoming loose or dislocated. Crowns also serve as a visual use, and are used when a discolored or stained tooth has to be brought back to its natural look.

Treatments

A tooth should generally be decreased in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent out to a special lab, which produces a custom-made crown. In many cases, a temporary crown is applied up until the permanent crown is ready. Long-term crowns are sealed in place.

Crowns are sometimes confused with veneers, but they are rather different. Veneers are typically applied only to fairly little locations.

Caring For Your Crowns

With correct care, a good quality crown might last approximately eight years or longer. It is extremely important to floss in the area of the crown to prevent excess plaque or collection of debris around the restoration.

Specific behaviors such as jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding) substantially reduce the life of a crown. Moreover, consuming hard foods, ice or hard candy can compromise the adhesion of the crown, and even break the crown.

Today We Will Be Going Over:

Ultra Sonic Tooth Cleaning

We use ultrasonic scalers for a lot of adult dental cleanings. These devices utilize ultrasonic vibrations to help breakdown the plaque and calculus on the teeth that trigger gingivitis and periodontal disease. The ultrasonic cleaners create tiny bubbles that implode on the surface of the tooth, eliminating microbes and removing plaque and tartar at the same time. Our instruments use a thin tip to better navigate in the periodontal pockets to help maintain optimal gingival health.

  • The procedure only uses water, no chemicals are used.

  • It can get rid of tartar buildup in hard-to-reach areas, without any damage to the tooth enamel.

  • Manual scaling frequently uses pressure for cleaning, while the vibration produced by the scaling tip of an ultrasonic scaler is barely perceptible. This makes ultrasonic cleaning appropriate to those with delicate teeth.

  • The cleaning process is much faster than manual scaling making your visit more comfy.

After your teeth have actually been cleaned with the ultrasonic cleaner, your teeth will be hand scaled to check for any residual deposits then polished.
