What Is A Dental Crown?

A crown is a cap made to cover a tooth with the purpose of restoring it to its natural shapes and size or to enhance its look. To prepare for the crown, dentists drill to get rid of the decayed area and also form the tooth to get ready for the crown for that portion which lies around and above the gum line.

Today's Conversation Has To Do With:

Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)

Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful and appealing smile.

Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.

As with many dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still really resilient and will last years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

How Are Veneers Applied?

Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

The direct technique generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is typically referred to as bonding.

The indirect method typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the very first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.

The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is generally less unpleasant. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.

You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
