Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are numerous methods to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use a number of methods: customizeded tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment because it is so easy and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
