Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of a lot of patients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth significantly. Because tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple approaches: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical whitening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
