Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like the majority of dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method generally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
