Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of many clients, there are a number of ways to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous approaches: customizeded tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of daily use. 3 different strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and practical bleaching procedure. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients like this treatment since it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
