Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are multiple methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth considerably. Because tooth lightening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize a number of methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office lightening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. 3 various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very fast and convenient whitening process. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays must be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
