Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a lovely and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers might one day require replacement; however, they are still very long lasting and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique typically involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not suggested for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
