What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental practitioner can economically bring back broken teeth in a single consultation using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to develop the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard second visit has been removed. This new innovation has more than 10 years of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)

Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and attractive smile.

Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect solution in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.

Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers may at some point require replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

How Are Veneers Placed?

Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

The direct strategy typically involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This technique is usually referred to as bonding.

The indirect strategy usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory made veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.

The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.

You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
