Today's Subject Is:

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a metal device designed to replace missing teeth. The device is typically constructed of titanium and is surgically put into the jawbone where the teeth are missing. An implant is permanent, unlike a dental bridge.

Crowns and conventional bridges or dentures might not be your only options when replacing missing teeth. For some people, dental implants provide a smile that feels and look very natural. Surgically positioned below the gums over a series of visits, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for bridges or a denture, individual replacement teeth.

Implants offer stability because they connect to your bone, a process called osseointegration. Integration of these implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit is more comfy than traditional substitutes. Candidates for dental implants should have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant.

How Involving Is A Dental Implant?

A dental implant may be an option to replace a missing tooth. In this procedure, a little titanium shaft is surgically {placed|implanted into the bone and allowed to set. The bone grows around it forming a tight connection, which additionally slows or stops the bone loss that takes place when the root of a natural tooth is missing. As soon as the implant is firmly embeded in the mouth, the dental practitioner then works to connect the replacement tooth onto the top of the shaft. This permanent option has the advantages over bridge work that it does not need the surrounding teeth for support, and, should the tooth wear out, another can simply be replaced on the shaft.

Implants can also be utilized as support as part of an implant bridge. This is an alternative to partial dentures, and has numerous advantages. First, there is no modification period to acclimatize the patient who, when the work is done, only feels teeth, not metal supports intruding into the mouth. Second, this slows the bone loss occasioned by missing teeth. Third, there is no pain or difficulty in eating. And, best of all, of course, they do not need to be taken out all the time.
