What Are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new technology that a dentist can economically restore broken teeth in a single visit using a high-quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an precise image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional 2nd visit has actually been removed. This new innovation has more than a decade of medical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and efficient.

Today's Subject Is:

Composite Dental Bonding

Bonding is a treatment where we apply a tooth-colored composite product to a tooth, shape it, allow it to solidify, and polish it. It can be used in specific circumstances where a tooth has actually been damaged or become stained. These are normally minor repairs, ones that can be resolved through this reasonably inexpensive means rather than through a more costly dental treatment.

How It Works:
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair damage done to the tooth by decay, to change the alignment of the tooth, close gaps in between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes. First the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface area, and a primer/bond agent is used so the material adheres to the surface area. Then the material itself is positioned on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The composite resin material is formed and polished to get a lustrous finish as a last step.
