There are different types of dentures, but they share their common function. They replace teeth that have actually become loose or been lost due to bone loss. When bone loss around the roots of teeth is big enough to let them fall out or loosen them, it's time for dentures. Relax. Nobody enjoys losing their natural teeth, however you can still eat and talk regularly.
The whole mouth is analyzed and a determination is made about which teeth will need to be removed, and which will stay. The loose teeth are then extracted. Dentures are fitted to go around or over whatever teeth stay in the mouth, depending on the type. There is an adjustment time after dentures are placed in the mouth, and it can take some getting used to. Once accustomed to the dentures, all the normal functionality and appearance return and one simply continues as usual. Typically implants can be used to further stabilize the dentures.
It is very important to keep in mind that life with an upper denture, a lower denture, and especially both, is a major lifestyle change when compared with natural teeth. Dentures impact the type of food you have the ability to eat, your confidence in social circumstances, as well as your self-esteem.
A Couple Reasons For Getting A Full Denture:
- All Teeth missing in the very same arch
- Restore chewing ability
- Restore a natural looking smile
- Economical alternative to other treatments
An upper full denture will usually feel much better than a lower complete denture. In order to significantly improve the fit of a lower full denture, we often recommend using dental implants as a retentive mechanism. Two dental implants positioned in the lower jaw can help anchor the denture and considerably enhance comfort. In some cases, the implants can even be placed in the jaw after a denture has actually been in use for multiple years.
