What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new technology that a dentist can financially bring back damaged teeth in a single consultation using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate image of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically produces the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer have to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has been removed. This brand-new technology has over a decade of scientific research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven accurate, safe and effective.

Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also described as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect issues early). Often deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also trigger the nerve to be harmed to the point it needs root canal therapy. As soon as this happens, the pulp ends up being infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it should be treated, and can not heal on its own. It can even weaken the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and might be extremely painful. Symptoms that the pulp has actually become infected might consist of sensitivity to hot/cold or sugary foods, discomfort, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. Sometimes, however, no signs appear and the individual is unaware of any issue till a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to remove the tooth. When the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Typically a core build-up and crown is recommended for recovering a tooth that has had root canal therapy.
