What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dental practitioner can financially restore broken teeth in a single visit using a high-quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a unique camera to take an precise photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The entire process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional 2nd visit has been eliminated. This brand-new technology has more than 10 years of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and reliable.

Today's Topic Will Be:

Temporal-Mandibular Joint

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble or soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, often extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If untreated and required to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a severely damaged joint.
