Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of most patients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize numerous approaches: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
