What Are The Benefits Of Same Day Crowns?

There are multiple advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over conventional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you only have to visit the dental practitioner one time, take one day away from your work to have the treatment, instead of the typical 2 or three visits.

  • Only one set of local, since the entire procedure can be carried out within an hour you only need to have one injection.

  • Your dental practitioner remains in complete control of the final outcome, given that the crown or inlay are designed and made from start to finish by your dentist, they have total control over how it will fit and look.

  • No temporary restorations, which can often fall off between visits if they are not taken care of appropriately.

Today's Discussion Will Be About:

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the problem. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery may be required to fix a terribly damaged joint.
