If You Need A Crown This Is The Best Choice

Getting a crown has long been known to be a two-visit dental experience. Many people have no idea that this is not the case with same day crowns. For our lucky patients, getting a crown just takes one appointment!

The Traditional 2 Visit Way

At the first appointment, impressions are taken of the tooth and the impression is sent out to a laboratory so that your permanent crown can be made. Lots of people do not like the goopy impression materials that can make them gag and that takes up to five minutes in their mouth to set.

Then your tooth is shaved down so that your crown can be placed on top of it. Then you receive a temporary crown cemented over the shaved tooth to hold you over until your permanent crown shows up from the lab. Then later, you have to go back in to the dentist, have the short-term crown taken out and the brand-new crown put on your tooth

Same Day Teeth Restorations

CEREC means CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take accurate digital imagery of areas requiring restoration and produce the appropriate restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration completed in simply one visit. We will design and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer system milling unit right in the office. You no longer have to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the lab to make your crown.

CEREC can be utilized for a wide scope of indications: partial crowns, posterior crowns, anterior crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays.

Today We Will Be Talking About:

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be triggered by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery might be required to repair a terribly damaged joint.
