Although dental crowns are considered in addition to other procedures that fall under the cosmetic dentistry classification, they can help to significantly enhance anybody's oral health. Dental crowns are mainly used to restore the size, shape, and function of a tooth. Most commonly, dental crowns are used following a root canal therapy treatment wherein a portion of the tooth mass is removed in order to get rid of decayed portions of the tooth. A dental crown is then used to help restore what parts of the tooth were lost so that it can work as it once did, fixing the oral well being of the client.

The Discussion For Today Will Be:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the top aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists use a number of approaches: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of daily use. Three various strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical whitening procedure. The appointment is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment since it is so simple and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every couple of months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
