Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are multiple ways to bleach teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will lighten teeth dramatically. Because tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous techniques: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three different strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is suggested for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see significant color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and practical lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays ought to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
