A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an exceptional method to replace missing teeth.
There are multiple types of bridges. We will discuss the very best options for your specific case. The "traditional bridge" is the most popular type and is typically made from porcelain fused to metal. These fixed bridges are most popular since they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge includes two crowns that go over 2 anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached on either side of the artificial teeth (pontics), filling the space created by multiple missing teeth.
Dental bridges are extremely durable and will last years with appropriate home care; however, they may have to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.
A Couple Reasons For Getting A Fixed Bridge:
Exactly what does getting a Fixed Bridge involve?
- Restore chewing and speaking ability.
- Maintain facial shape.
- Fill space of missing teeth.
- Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
- Upgrade from a detachable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.
- Restore your smile.
Getting a bridge normally needs two or more visits. While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a part of enamel to allow for a crown. Next, a highly precise impression (mold) is made which will be sent to a dental lab where the bridge will be fabricated. In addition, a temporary bridge will be made and worn for multiple weeks until your next visit.
At the second visit, your permanent bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit and comfy bite.
You will receive care directions at the conclusion of your treatment. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new permanent bridge.
Why You Should Consider Dental Bridges?
This is an option for filling the area created by a missing tooth. It is formed to appear like the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge uses the two surrounding teeth for support, hence the name. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge work is as much an art as it is an specific science. The materials used might be gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic material. The option of material depends upon requirements for strength, wear, and/or esthetics.
It is essential that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for numerous reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the gap begin to move inward, developing a whole domino effect of bad things. Teeth utilize their neighbors for support, and, with one missing, they start to "fall." As this worsens the bite changes in reaction to the pressure. This can ultimately lead to problems with the entire jaw, e.g. TMJ. The surrounding teeth weaken and it is simply a matter of time before they, too, are lost. Gum disease becomes a serious problem, with the difficulty of treatment increasing as the neglect continues.
