What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new technology that a dental expert can financially restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling device in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate photo of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and immediately produces the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second appointment has been eliminated. This new technology has more than 10 years of medical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and effective.

Today's Topic Will Be:

Teeth Veneers (Porcelain)

Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and attractive smile.

Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating numerous cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.

Just like most dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last many years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.

How Are Veneers Applied?

Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is put over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.

The direct technique usually involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is generally referred to as bonding.

The indirect strategy usually involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.

The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the treatment is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.

You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and stunning veneers.
