Because having whiter teeth has now become the primary aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth lightening system that will whiten teeth considerably. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists use multiple approaches: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and convenient bleaching process. The visit is approximately one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
