Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with a lot of dental restorations, veneers might one day need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy typically involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is usually less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and gorgeous veneers.
