Same Day Crowns - A Smart Innovation

We strive to stay current with the multitude of technological advances that are taking place in dentistry. We are proud to have the same day crown innovation in our office. It permits us to create crowns and bigger restorations in our office. Same day crowns use the most advanced dental innovation, including 3D video imaging and CAD/CAM technology. In layman's terms, it is a computer-designed restoration for your tooth. The entire treatment takes in between 1-2 hours and can be completed in one sitting.

Typically, a crown in the past would have required 2 visits. The first visit consists of preparing the tooth, taking the mold, and fitting a temporary crown. Throughout the 2nd visit, the temporary crown is replaced with the long-term one. With a same day crown, the whole treatment can be finished in simply one visit. We will use video imaging innovation to photograph the tooth and use CAD/CAM innovation to develop the crown. This 3D design is wirelessly sent to a milling machine that carves the restoration out of a vacuum formed ceramic block. We will then adhere the brand-new crown to your tooth. This eliminates the need to wear a temporary along with a 2nd appointment.

Corrective dentistry treatments can be extremely important to the general health of your teeth and mouth. Please call our office and request a consultation.

Today's Subject Will Be:

Fillings

Fillings are done to eliminate decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. It is called a filling because brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can cause tooth discomfort and/or infection, and the tooth would need a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are 2 kinds of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists provide both types of fillings, however find that many of their clients like the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings provide good toughness and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that have to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is removed when the dental practitioner prepares the tooth, and this may lead to a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively attached, to the tooth, frequently allowing a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry throughout the whole filling procedure and they go through stain and discoloration over time. The life span of a white filling can depend greatly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also frequently used to repair front teeth that have chipped or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is normally much cheaper than veneers or crowns. However, bonding typically does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
