What Are The Advantages Of Same Day Crowns?

There are a number of advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is carried out in a single visit, you only have to see the dental practitioner once, take one day away from your schedule to have the procedure, instead of the normal 2 or three appointments.

  • Only one anesthetic injections, because the whole treatment can be carried out within an hour you just have to have one injection.

  • Your dentist is in complete control of the final result, because the crown or inlay are designed and produced from start to finish by your dental practitioner, they have overall control over how it will look and fit.

  • No short-term restorations, which can typically fall off in between appointments if they are not cared for correctly.

Today's Topic Has To Do With:

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are involved in the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, and so on. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery might be required to repair a terribly damaged joint.
