CROWN IN DENTISTRY
BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA

Why Are These Crowns Called Same Day Crowns?

This cutting edge technology permits your dental practitioner to take precise pictures of your tooth and use those images to design, manufacture, and place a porcelain or zirconia crown in a single visit. Same day crowns offer exceptional benefits, value, and precision to our clients.

How Does The Same Day Crown Technology Work?

The same day crown procedure includes three basic steps. 1st, your dental practitioner uses 3D imaging to take highly precise images of your tooth and the surrounding structures. Next, they then download these images into a computer and, using computer-assisted design software, creates your custom-fitted crown. From there, your dentist will send the design to their in-office precision milling device which produces the crown from a block of dental porcelain or zirconia. Once they stain and glaze the crown for extra strength and esthetics, your dental practitioner will place it on your tooth.

Exactly What Are The Advantages Of Same Day Crowns?

We only use dental porcelain and zirconia to develop our same day crowns. These metal-free restorations provide incomparable toughness, sturdiness, chip and stain resistance, and natural charm.

Precision-fitted same day crowns need less tooth prep work and maintain more of your tooth structure.

Conventional crowns require two office appointments. With same day crowns, you can come into our dentist's office for a visit and leave with a perfectly restored tooth.

You can avoid the trouble and potential risks associated with uncomfortable temporary crowns.

Same Day Crowns Restorations

CEREC means CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take exact digital imagery of areas requiring restoration and produce the appropriate restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration completed in just one visit. We will design and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer milling unit right in the office. You no longer need to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the lab to fabricate your crown.

CEREC can be used for a wide range of indications: anterior crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, partial crowns and posterior crowns.

Today's Subject Is:

Root Canal (Endodontic Treatment)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and identify problems early). Often deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal treatment. As soon as this takes place, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and start to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it needs to be treated, and can not recover by itself. It can even damage the whole immune system. This is dangerous, and might be very agonizing. Signs that the pulp has actually become infected might consist of sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, discomfort, swelling, discomfort to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no signs appear and the person is unaware of any issue until a checkup.

A root canal is then performed to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and disinfect the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. When the infection is dealt with, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Usually a core build-up and crown is recommended for recovering a tooth that has actually had root canal therapy.
