Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most clients, there are numerous methods to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth considerably. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is necessary to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous approaches: customizeded tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray method involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray approach is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take multiple months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a extremely fast and convenient bleaching process. The appointment is around one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our patients enjoy this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and fast!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
