Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can entirely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with most dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still really resilient and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method generally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
