Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with most dental restorations, veneers might someday need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is placed over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are normally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is generally referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have huge fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and gorgeous veneers.
