If You Want A Crown This Probably Is The Best Choice

Getting a crown has actually long been known to be a two-visit dental experience. Many people have no idea that this is not the case with same day crowns. For our lucky patients, getting a crown just takes one visit!

The Old Fashioned 2 Visit Way

At the very first appointment, impressions are taken of the tooth and the impression is sent to a laboratory so that your permanent crown can be made. Lots of people do not like the goopy impression products that can make them gag and that takes up to 5 minutes in their mouth to set.

Then your tooth is shaved down so that your crown can be put on top of it. Then you get a short-term crown cemented over the shaved tooth to hold you over until your permanent crown arrives from the lab. Then later, you need to go back to the dentist, have the temporary crown removed and the new crown positioned on your tooth

Same Day Crown Restorations

CEREC means CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take precise digital images of areas requiring restoration and produce the proper restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration completed in simply one visit. We will develop and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer system milling unit right in the office. You no longer have to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the laboratory to fabricate your crown.

CEREC can be used in a full range of indications: anterior crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, partial crowns and posterior crowns.

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be triggered by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Soreness in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, in some cases extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If unattended and required to extremes, surgery may be required to repair a terribly damaged joint.
