What Are The Benefits Of Same Day Crowns?

There are multiple advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single appointment, you only have to see the dental practitioner once, take one day away from your schedule to have the treatment, instead of the typical 2 or three visits.

  • Only one anesthetic injections, given that the entire procedure can be performed within an hour you just have to have one injection.

  • Your dental practitioner is in complete control of the final outcome, given that the crown or inlay are designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dental practitioner, they have overall control over how it will fit and look.

  • No temporary restorations, which can often fall off in between visits if they are not taken care of correctly.

Today We Will Be Talking About:

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be brought on by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Often a plastic mouth piece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is adding to the issue. If unattended and required to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a badly damaged joint.
