Today's Conversation Has To Do With:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of patients, there are numerous ways to lighten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth significantly. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.

Most dentists utilize numerous methods: custom made tray bleaching, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.

The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory fabricates into custom-made vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however, the greater the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is suggested for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take numerous months of use to see considerable color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a extremely quick and hassle-free whitening procedure. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment due to the fact that it is so simple and fast!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of outer tooth layer.

  • Florousis (extreme fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
