What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental expert can economically bring back broken teeth in a single appointment using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the broken tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner uses CAD technology to create the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface area of the old tooth. The whole procedure takes about one hour.

What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dental practitioners no longer need to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has actually been eliminated. This new technology has more than a decade of clinical research and documentation to support it. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and reliable.

A Beautiful Smile!

A lovely smile is among your biggest assets - a reflection of joy and good health.

Today's Topic Is About:

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint)

TMJ means temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be triggered by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are associated with the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can trigger:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the issue. If unattended and taken to extremes, surgery may be needed to fix a badly damaged joint.
