Tooth Veneers (Porcelain)
Veneers are a very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a lovely and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers may at some point need replacement; however, they are still very resilient and will last multiple years, providing you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is put over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The treatment can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy typically involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy normally involves 2 visits because the veneers will be made at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the treatment is usually less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your brand-new and beautiful veneers.
