Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are customizeded (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to produce a beautiful and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Just like most dental restorations, veneers may someday require replacement; however, they are still really durable and will last years, providing you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Set?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method normally involves positioning composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is typically referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are normally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are extremely esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is typically less unpleasant. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care instructions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
