Porcelain Veneers (Teeth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of resilient, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and appealing smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can typically be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
As with many dental restorations, veneers may one day require replacement; however, they are still extremely long lasting and will last multiple years, giving you a long lasting, stunning smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Veneers are a dental treatment in which a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct method generally involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect method typically involves two visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab produced veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are really esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is typically less uncomfortable. Veneers are not advised for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care directions for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your brand-new and lovely veneers.
