Are you too busy for the normal 2 dental appointment crown?

Technology today is altering our daily lives. Many people, however, aren't aware that technology also is impacting dentistry in brand-new and interesting methods.

Advanced innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, triggering less pain and producing satisfying outcomes.

One advancement instrument, called same day crowns, permits dentists to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, saving patients time and trouble.

Exactly what are Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns, mean that a dental practitioner can quickly restore broken teeth in a single appointment using a top quality ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How does it work?

Same day crowns use CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, including a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument.

The dental practitioner uses a special camera to take a precise photo of the broken tooth. This optical impression is moved and shown on a color computer screen, where the dental practitioner utilizes CAD technology to design the restoration. The CAM takes control and immediately creates the restoration while the client waits.

Finally, the dental practitioner bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes about two hours.

What does this development mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings tarnishing smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

Dental practitioners don't have to produce temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the conventional 2nd appointment has been removed.

Same day crowns have two decades of clinical research study and documentation to promote the innovation. The restorations have been shown exact, safe and reliable.

How can I find out if this is an choice for me?

TMJ (Temporal-Mandibular Joint)

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, injury, or excess muscle stress. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are involved in the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, often extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. In some cases a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the issue. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery may be required to fix a badly damaged joint.
