Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many clients, there are a number of methods to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth significantly. Because tooth bleaching just works on natural tooth enamel, it is very important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after lightening so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous techniques: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory produces into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of daily use. Three different strengths of gel may be utilized, however, the higher the strength, the higher the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is recommended for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really quick and hassle-free lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour consisting of both the preparation and treatment. Our patients love this treatment since it is so simple and quick!
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays ought to be utilized every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
