What Are Same Day Dental Crowns?

Same day crowns are a brand-new innovation that a dental expert can economically bring back broken teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic product that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) innovation, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an precise picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and shown on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and instantly develops the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Innovation Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the traditional 2nd appointment has actually been removed. This brand-new technology has more than a decade of clinical research and documents to support it. The restorations have been proven accurate, safe and reliable.

Today's Topic Is About:

Fillings

Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the afflicted tooth structure. It is called a filling since brand-new material fills the hole that the decay left. Now days most teeth are treated with bonded tooth colored composite resin fillings. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated, decay can result in tooth discomfort and/or infection, and the tooth would need a root canal treatment or extraction.

There are two types of fillings; amalgam or silver fillings, and composite or white fillings. Composite fillings are tooth-colored to blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Most dentists provide both kinds of fillings, but find that many of their patients like the composite fillings.

The term composite refers to the actual filling material which is a mix of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium.

Composite fillings provide excellent sturdiness and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Less tooth structure is eliminated when the dental practitioner prepares the tooth, and this might lead to a smaller filling than with of an amalgam.

In addition, composites are "bonded", or adhesively connected, to the tooth, typically enabling a more conservative repair for the tooth. Composite fillings require that the tooth be kept clean and dry during the entire filling procedure and they are subject to stain and staining with time. The life expectancy of a white filling can depend significantly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.

Composite filling material is also commonly utilized to repair front teeth that have actually chipped or worn. Where possible, esthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is typically much less expensive than veneers or crowns. However, bonding generally does not last as long as veneers or crowns.
