Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are numerous ways to whiten teeth. The most popular technique is using a home tooth whitening system that will bleach teeth significantly. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is essential to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole procedure takes about a week of day-to-day use. Three various strengths of gel might be utilized, however, the greater the strength, the greater the possibility of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for terribly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very fast and hassle-free lightening process. The visit is approximately one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients enjoy this treatment because it is so easy and quick!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays must be used every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
