Today We Will Be Talking About:

Tooth Whitening

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most clients, there are a number of ways to bleach teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth whitening system that will lighten teeth considerably. Since tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the recently bleached teeth.

Most dentists use numerous techniques: custom made tray whitening, professional strength white strips, and in-office whitening.

The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into customized vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is put in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The whole process takes about a week of everyday use. Three different strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the probability of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray technique is advised for severely stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take numerous months of use to see significant color improvement.

Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical lightening process. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment due to the fact that it is so easy and quick!

Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.

Reasons For Tooth Whitening:

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Normal wear of external tooth layer.

  • Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).

  • Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
