Porcelain Veneers (Tooth)
Veneers are a really thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a stunning and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely improve your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal option in treating many cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to most dental restorations, veneers may someday need replacement; however, they are still really long lasting and will last years, giving you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental treatment where a covering is positioned over the outside (noticeable area) of the tooth. Veneers are typically only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct strategy typically involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This approach is normally referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy normally involves two visits because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental lab. At the very first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are provided a short-term covering. In 2 to 3 weeks the veneers are back from the lab, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory produced veneers are generally made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is normally less unpleasant. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have big fillings or little tooth structure.
You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Correct brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
