Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of the majority of clients, there are a number of methods to lighten teeth. The most popular method is utilizing a home tooth lightening system that will bleach teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, and so on. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they will match the recently bleached teeth.
Most dentists utilize multiple methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray technique involves having impressions taken, which the laboratory makes into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire process takes about a week of everyday use. Three various strengths of gel might be used, however, the higher the strength, the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see considerable color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a really fast and practical whitening process. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients like this treatment since it is so simple and fast!
Tooth bleaching is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For upkeep of whitened teeth the trays should be utilized every couple of months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of external tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation throughout tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.).
