Exactly What Are The Advantages Of Same Day Crowns?

There are numerous advantages to having treatment with same day crowns over traditional, laboratory-made restorations.

  • Everything is performed in a single visit, you just need to visit the dentist one time, take one day away from your schedule to have the treatment, instead of the usual 2 or three appointments.

  • Only one set of local, since the whole treatment can be performed within an hour you just need to have one injection.

  • Your dental practitioner remains in complete control of the final outcome, because the crown or inlay are designed and made from start to finish by your dentist, they have overall control over how it will fit and look.

  • No short-term restorations, which can typically fall off between appointments if they are not cared for properly.

Temporal Mandibular Joint

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw; joint as in it's where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint might be triggered by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and 5 muscles are involved in the area. If something fails a good deal of trouble can result.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Earaches.

  • Headaches.

  • Pain in the jaw muscles.

  • Trouble in opening and closing the mouth.

  • Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face.

  • Clicking or popping of the jaw.

Dental treatments for the condition can consist of replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling spaces in between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouthpiece is utilized to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the problem. If untreated and required to extremes, surgery may be required to fix a badly damaged joint.
