Today's Topic Has To Do With:

Dental Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that covers the whole tooth surface area restoring it to its initial sizes and shape. A crown protects and reinforces the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life span than it would have if restored by fillings or other kinds of restorations.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be brought back with a filling. They are most frequently done after root canal treatments, or when a big filling breaks. The bigger the hole made by a cavity that needs to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Even after a filling is put in a huge cavity, a tooth is most likely to break. Bear in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth undergo incredible pressures. Crowns sit over the weakened tooth, offering strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. A busted or split tooth is a much more severe matter and far more hard to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a nice smile.

It takes 2 appointments to recover a tooth with a crown. In the very first appointment any decay is eliminated from the tooth and it is formed to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in making a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, typically of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic product, or gold. A short-term crown is used throughout this time. In the 2nd visit this temporary crown is removed. Then the {permanent crown is adjusted as needed then cemented in place.

What Does Getting A Crown Include?

A crown procedure usually needs 2 appointments. Your very first appointment will consist of taking impressions that will be utilized to create your custom-made crown. A mold will also be used to develop a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth for approximately 2 weeks till your brand-new crown is fabricated by a dental lab.

While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface area to appropriately fit the crown. As soon as these details are accomplished, your short-term crown will be put with short-term cement and your bite will be inspected to guarantee you are biting properly.

At your second visit your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your brand-new crown will be carefully positioned to make sure the spacing and bite are accurate.

You will be given care guidelines and encouraged to have routine dental visits to examine your crown. As always, appropriate oral hygiene will help extend the life of your new crown.
