2 Reasons To Talk With Your Dental Practitioner About Same Day Crowns

Same day crowns are a great option that makes getting a crown much more practical and less time-consuming. These crowns operate in much the same way as standard crowns, other than that same-day crowns are made in the dentist's office while you are waiting, instead of being ordered from a dental lab like traditional crowns.

Here are 2 reasons to speak to your dental practitioner about the possibility of getting a same day crown:

Far more Convenient

Convenience is going to be the biggest factor that many people choose to opt for a same-day crown.

In the past, getting a crown would mean that you would have to pay multiple appointments to your dental practitioner before the crown was in place, with one visit committed to preparing your tooth and another appointment to place the long-term crown over your tooth.

While that might not appear like it is too time-consuming, it can frequently be challenging to take some time off from your job or family multiple times in the length of a week or more in order to see your dentist throughout regular business hours.

Since the same-day crown is made in-house by your dentist, you will have the final crown fitted over the tooth before you leave from your one required crown visit.

This is helpful since you will not need to fret about irritating your boss, having your co-workers cover for you, or losing out on pay due to the fact that you needed to leave in the middle of the work day numerous times to go to the dentist.

A Lot More Comfortable

Another reason to ask your dentist for a same-day crown is comfort. Same day crowns are more comfortable since you will not have to invest a week or more wearing a short-term crown while awaiting your permanent crown.

A temporary crown can typically provide quite a bit of inflammation and discomfort since it can often become loose quickly.

When a short-term crown is loose, it can permit liquids to get under it and touch nerves in the exposed roots of your tooth. The loose fit can also trigger the short-term crown to move along your gum and trigger the skin to become scratched and inflamed.

While you generally do not need to wear a short-term crown for long, a same-day crown can enable you to prevent any issues associated with the temporary crown completely.

This kind of crown is going to be both a lot more comfortable and much more convenient to obtain than a standard crown.

Same Day Tooth Restorations

CEREC stands for CERamic REConstruction and is a tool in our office that can take accurate digital images of areas needing restoration and produce the proper restoration on the spot.

With our CEREC cad/cam machine, you can have your crown or other restoration finished in simply one visit. We will create and custom fit your tooth precisely with our computer milling unit right in the office. You no longer have to have a temporary crown or wait weeks for the lab to fabricate your crown.

CEREC can be used in a wide range of indications: inlays, onlays, partial crowns, posterior crowns, anterior crowns and veneers.

Today's Discussion Is About:

Digital X-Rays

X-rays are a primary tool for early identification of dental issues.

Identifying issues with x-rays before they become problems can save you money in the long run by preventing the need for more extensive, expensive procedures or surgeries. X-rays are primarily used to detect:

  • Cysts (fluid filled sacks at the base of your teeth).

  • Impacted teeth.

  • Teeth that are still coming in.

  • Tumors, both cancerous and non-cancerous.

  • Internal tooth decay.

Most dentists use digital x-rays, which have multiple advantages over traditional film based x-rays. Digital x-rays enable us to take x-rays with 1/5 of the radiation that you would receive from traditional dental x-rays. The concern of direct exposure to excess radiation is removed.

Big on-screen X-rays make client communication more efficient. The instant observation of the images on the screen enables us to discuss your dental health quickly and properly.

Digital radiography has significantly improved the practice of dentistry. It enables the patient and the doctor to see images of the teeth in higher resolution on a big format for easier detection of problems, all while decreasing the radiation exposure to the patient. The process we use further defines the radiograph, leading to clinically meaningful images that are sharp, detailed and rich in contrast.

Images are available quickly after exposure, removing the wait and effort spent establishing and mounting x-rays. If an image has to be retaken, it can be done right away. Digital format also allows us to send out and receive your images digitally for consultation that can be provided to you rapidly.
