Porcelain Tooth Veneers
Veneers are a really thin pieces of long lasting, tooth shaped, porcelain that are custom made (for shape and color) by a professional dental lab. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a gorgeous and attractive smile.
Veneers can entirely improve your teeth and smile. They can commonly be alternatives to crowns and the perfect option in treating lots of cosmetic dental conditions for the front teeth.
Similar to a lot of dental restorations, veneers may one day need replacement; however, they are still very durable and will last multiple years, offering you a long lasting, lovely smile.
How Are Veneers Applied?
Veneers are a dental procedure where a covering is positioned over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are generally only done to the part of the teeth that are seen when talking or grinning. The procedure can be direct or indirect.
The direct technique normally involves putting composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding.
The indirect strategy typically involves 2 visits because the veneers will be produced at a dental laboratory. At the first visit the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are offered a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The lab made veneers are typically made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
The benefit of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is eliminated, and the procedure is normally less uncomfortable. Veneers are not recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
You will get care guidelines for your veneers. Appropriate brushing, flossing and routine dental visits will help in the life of your new and beautiful veneers.
