Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of many clients, there are numerous methods to lighten teeth. The most popular technique is utilizing a home tooth bleaching system that will bleach teeth considerably. Because tooth lightening just works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the freshly bleached teeth.
Most dentists use numerous methods: custom made tray lightening, professional strength white strips, and in-office bleaching.
The tray approach involves having impressions taken, which the lab produces into custom vinyl trays. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes to a full hour. The entire procedure takes about a week of everyday use. 3 various strengths of gel might be used, however, the greater the strength, the higher the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity. The tray method is advised for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it might take a number of months of use to see substantial color improvement.
Our in-office treatment is a very quick and hassle-free lightening procedure. The visit is roughly one hour including both the preparation and treatment. Our clients love this treatment since it is so easy and quick!
Tooth lightening is not permanent. A touch-up might be needed once a year and more often if you smoke and/or drink coffee, tea, or wine. For maintenance of whitened teeth the trays need to be used every few months.
Reasons For Tooth Whitening:
- Yellow, brown stained teeth.
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
- Florousis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development).
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, and so on).
