What Are Single Visit Crowns?

Same day crowns are a new innovation that a dental expert can economically bring back broken teeth in a single visit using a premium ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.

How Does It Work?

Same day crowns use a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and a milling machine in one instrument. The dental practitioner uses a unique camera to take an precise image of the broken tooth. This optical impression is downloaded and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD innovation to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the client waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the brand-new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

Exactly What Does This Technology Mean For A Client?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, suitable with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer have to develop temporaries or take impressions and send them to a laboratory. Because of this, the standard second visit has been eliminated. This new technology has over 10 years of scientific research and documents to support it. The restorations have actually been proven precise, safe and effective.

Today We Will Be Going Over:

Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal)

Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is needed when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to the root pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and discover problems early). Often deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may also trigger the nerve to be damaged to the point it requires root canal therapy. Once this happens, the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

By the time the pulp is infected it has to be treated, and can not heal by itself. It can even deteriorate the entire immune system. This is dangerous, and may be extremely uncomfortable. Symptoms that the pulp has actually ended up being infected might include sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, discomfort, swelling, pain to biting or pressure, and a bad taste in the mouth. In some cases, however, no signs are apparent and the individual is unaware of any issue till a checkup.

A root canal is then carried out to clear out the infected tooth pulp, and decontaminate the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. When the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any more infection. Normally a core build-up and crown is suggested for bring back a tooth that has actually had root canal therapy.
